Saw wild emus on way to Dorrigo National Park, another World Heritage site. I should count up all the world heritage sites I have visited on this trip. Of course the Great Barrier Reef; right at the start there was the great square in Marrakech, Djemaa el fna. But back to the here and now. Went on a rainforest and waterfall tour today. Fantastic greens, rolling hills, steep mountains, giant trees; damp and warm - perfect conditions for leeches. A few got on me. All but one I detected immediately, but that one attached on back of right knee and was there for awhile. I squealed as I pulled it off, but what was strange was that I didn't stop bleeding for a long time. Yuck! Really made bloody mess of my pants. Lots of birds in the forest, great calls, but hard to see. Saw quail, lyrebird, parrots, and did see a kookaburra last evening and lots of ibis. Was told about a "frog mouthed owl" - not sure I believe that. Anyway, lots of wildlife and peace here by the river.
